CARTIER

In 1847 Louis-Francois Cartier took over his master's, Adolphe Picard, workshop and founded the jewelry company Cartier. In 1874 Alfred Cartier, Louis-Francois son, took over the company, but it wasn't until his sons Louis, Pierre, and Jacques took over the company where the brand-name became world renown. In 1904 Alberto Santos-Dumont, a pioneer aviator, complained to his friend Louis Cartier about the unreliability and impracticality of using a bulky pocket watch during flight, in response Cartier unveiled its first men's flat wristwatch the "Santos". Already an established giant in the jewelry industry, 1907 marked the year Cartier lunged into the world of chronology, signing a contract with Edmond Jaeger agreeing to exclusively supply movements for Cartier watches. The company remained f amily owned until 1964 where it became a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont Group. Cartier in modern times represents Luxury, Quality, and prestige where every piece is a form of art.
